“Cyber Anarchists” on Facebook

Posted on | October 21, 2011 | No Comments

A shadowy network of “cyber-anarchists” has been linked to a proliferation of controversial “rape pages” on Facebook that are drawing millions of users, including many young Britons, Australians and Americans, to the social networking site.

Don’t you love how they make some school kids with sick senses of humor into a “shadowy network?”

P.S. Facebook, your free speech stuff would be more convincing if you weren’t such pearl clutchers when it comes to nudity.  I mean you ban baby pics for Pete’s sake.

The first thing you must know about Jón Gnarr is that he’s a self-described anarchist who has invoked Tolstoy and Bakunin, as well as Gandhi and punk band Crass. It is critical in understanding what is happening in Reykjavík with the Best Party.

Anarchist Dog Walkers

Posted on | June 24, 2011 | No Comments

What do you know.  A nice piece in the WP on a dog walking collective.

A meeting of anarchists, progressives, a self-described “surly feminist” and others on the far left of the political spectrum is underway. They’re young and radical. They’re organizing intently. The matter at hand could be oppression, or the police state, or revolution.

But it’s not. It’s walking dogs.

In her closing submission to the court, defence attorney Indira Stewart remarked that Rainville, who describes himself as an anarchist and says he’s not opposed to the destruction of property—as long as no harm is committed to human life— did not intend to engage in vandalism when he joined the marching protestors at Dundas and University.

Faint Spanish Anarchy

Posted on | June 7, 2011 | No Comments

The Economist dismisses the anarchist influence on Spain protests.

There is a faint echo of Spain’s anarchist tradition in their anti-party, anti-union slogans, mixed with familiar anti-globalisation rhetoric. But there are two strands to their discontent that the politicians should listen to.

Anarchisty Hacktivisty?

These hackers say they “operate as anarchy,” but are giving the government a chance to get things right?

There is no time frame. This is a new era, so we will definitely give the government a chance to get things right. We attack when there’s a need to. The last time we attacked, we protested against the wastage during the Nigeria at 50 celebration and the last one was ‘OperationSignTheFOIbill’.

Free Speech Fight Commemoration

Posted on | June 6, 2011 | No Comments

San Diego is planning on a big commemoration for next year’s 100th anniversary of the IWW free speech fight.

Jan. 8, 2012, will mark the 100th anniversary of the San Diego City Council’s passage of an ordinance banning public speeches in a six-block area, including the Downtown area known as “Soapbox Row,” in an alleged effort to hamper the Industrial Workers of the World’s ability to recruit members. Thousands of IWW “Wobblies” flooded into San Diego to resist the ordinance; they were met with police brutality and vigilantism, which reached a horrifying crescendo with the alleged abduction, torture and tar-and-feathering of renowned anarchist Emma Goldman’s partner, Ben Reitman. (That’s according to multiple accounts, including Goldman’s memoir, the Journal of San Diego Historyand research compiled by Jim Miller in the book Under the Perfect Sun.)

On NC Rising

Posted on | June 6, 2011 | No Comments

Sure, there are serious-minded workshops such as “Histories of State Repression” and “Labor History & Struggle in NC,” and fashionable concepts such as “Crime & Community” (description: “Crime can be pretty sexy. On top of that, it often times shows ways of life that are not only antagonistic to the state, but struggle to exist outside its control.” But the one that catches my eye is “Dishwashing 101 for Manarchists: Moving from Theory to Practice in Revolutionary Anti-Patriarchal Solidarity.”
